GoHighLevel Voice AI: what it costs, what it can do, and how to set it up

GoHighLevel Voice AI is HighLevel's built-in phone agent. It costs $50 a month per sub-account for 100 minutes on the AI Employee Growth plan or $97 a month for unlimited minutes on AI Employee Unlimited, plus per-minute phone charges that HighLevel says "still apply to all phone calls regardless of plan," on top of your HighLevel subscription from $97 a month. It can answer calls around the clock, collect information, book appointments on a HighLevel calendar and transfer callers to a person. Whether it answers at all depends on three settings most people miss. Everything below is read from HighLevel's own documentation, with the dates each page was last modified.

The short version

  • Three AI pricing tiers: pay-per-use at "voice plus token cost," Growth at $50 a month with 100 Voice AI minutes, Unlimited at $97 a month. Per-minute phone charges are extra on all three.
  • What an agent does: answers inbound calls, asks questions, collects contact details, books appointments, triggers workflows, transfers to a person or another agent. Outbound calling exists but requires HighLevel's compliance approval.
  • Why it does not answer: the number is not assigned in the agent's Deploy tab, call forwarding is not routed to Voice AI, or the timeout lets the call hit voicemail first. HighLevel says a call that reaches voicemail is marked complete and the agent will not answer.
  • Build it or buy it: if you already run GoHighLevel, Voice AI is the cheapest receptionist you can add. If you do not, a done-for-you receptionist costs less than the platform plus the add-on plus your evenings.

What is GoHighLevel Voice AI?

In HighLevel's words, "Voice AI enables businesses to automate phone conversations using intelligent AI-powered voice agents. These agents can answer incoming calls, make outbound calls, engage in natural conversations, collect information, answer questions, book appointments, and trigger automated actions based on the outcome of the conversation." It is one product inside the AI Employee suite, alongside Conversation AI for texts and chat, Reviews AI, Content AI and Ask AI.

A Voice AI agent is "an automated voice assistant that communicates with callers using the instructions, business information, and actions you configure." HighLevel offers three ways to create one: "Browse Marketplace" to install a prebuilt agent, "Create Custom Agent" with a prompt, knowledge base, actions and call settings, or a "Flow Based Builder" for "structured or multi-step conversations." The agent lives inside a sub-account, is assigned a HighLevel or Twilio phone number, and is the thing that picks up when that number rings.

How much does GoHighLevel Voice AI cost?

Three parts: the HighLevel subscription, the AI plan for the sub-account, and phone usage. HighLevel's AI Product Pricing article, last modified September 22, 2026, gives the AI plans; the pricing page gives the subscription; the Phone System Pricing guide, modified September 1, 2026, gives the per-minute rates. All in US dollars.

ItemPay-Per-UseAI Employee GrowthAI Employee Unlimited
AI plan price"Token cost only," no monthly fee$50 a month per sub-account$97 a month per sub-account
Voice AI (inbound, outbound, widget)"Voice + token cost"100 AI Agent minutes a month, then pay-per-use ratesUnlimited, "subject to fair use"
Conversation AI (texts, chat, DMs)At token cost1,000 agent responses a monthUnlimited
Phone chargesExtra on every plan: "Phone System charges still apply to all phone calls regardless of plan." Inbound to a HighLevel number about $0.012 a minute after HighLevel's discount; local number $1.15 a month
HighLevel subscriptionStarter $97, Unlimited $297, Agency Pro $497 a month; required before any add-on

Our arithmetic from those rates, for one location taking 300 inbound Voice AI minutes a month: Unlimited AI plan $97, phone minutes about $3.50, number $1.15, so roughly $102 a month for the receptionist itself, on top of the $97 Starter subscription if the business holds its own account (all plans are in GoHighLevel pricing). On the Growth plan the same 300 minutes would exceed the 100 included and bill the overage at pay-per-use rates, which HighLevel does not publish as a flat per-minute figure. For a business that already pays for HighLevel, that is a cheap receptionist. For one that does not, it is $199 a month plus the setup, which is the comparison in the last section.

HighLevel's own caution applies: "Pricing and model availability may change... When quoting pricing externally, confirm the current in-app pricing and billing settings first." We reread these pages before every setup.

What can a GoHighLevel Voice AI agent do, and not do?

HIPAA"HighLevel accounts are not HIPAA compliant by default." HIPAA compliance is a $297 a month add-on.Medical and dental practices need the add-on and a business associate agreement before patient calls go through it

How do you set up GoHighLevel Voice AI so it actually answers?

The agent is the easy part. The number routing is where most setups fail. HighLevel's inbound call flow article, modified June 29, 2026, is blunt: "If the caller reaches local voicemail, HighLevel will mark the call as completed, and the Voice AI agent will not answer the call." The steps below are condensed from HighLevel's "How to Create Voice AI Agents" (modified September 18, 2026), the inbound call flow article and the working hours article (modified August 25, 2026).

Two rules from HighLevel's documentation: do not assign the sub-account's default number to the agent, and do not leave call forwarding pointing anywhere but Voice AI if you want the agent to always answer.

One more thing the documentation makes clear: Voice AI needs a HighLevel (LC Phone) number, a connected Twilio number or a number pool, and the user needs the "View & Manage Voice AI Agents" permission. If the Voice AI menu is missing, that permission is the first thing to check. Text follow-up after the call also needs an approved A2P registration; our GoHighLevel setup service does that as step one.

Want it built and tested rather than followed from a help article? We set up Voice AI in your own GoHighLevel account: agent, prompt, booking, transfer, number routing, A2P and the follow-up workflows, then test it with real calls before handover. Setup from $499, final price on a free 30-minute call. Platform bugs and billing still go to HighLevel; our guide to GoHighLevel support shows every way to reach them.

Should you use GoHighLevel Voice AI or a separate AI receptionist?

It depends on one thing: whether you already run your business on GoHighLevel. The prices in the LeadSixty rows are ours; the HighLevel prices are from the pages cited above.

Honest note: Voice AI is HighLevel's product, and it improves on HighLevel's schedule, not ours. Its documentation is good and its price for an existing HighLevel user is hard to beat. Where it loses is the 47 articles between you and a receptionist that reliably answers, and the fact that the platform is priced and described for agencies. If you are one, or you have one, build it. If you are a dentist with a front desk of two, read our AI receptionist page and decide on the call.

FAQ

Questions about GoHighLevel Voice AI

What is the GoHighLevel AI Employee pricing?+
Three tiers per sub-account, per HighLevel's AI Product Pricing article: Pay-Per-Use with no monthly fee and usage billed at token cost; AI Employee Growth at $50 a month with 1,000 Conversation AI responses and 100 Voice AI minutes included; AI Employee Unlimited at $97 a month with unlimited Conversation AI and Voice AI subject to fair use. Phone charges are billed separately on all three.
Is GoHighLevel Voice AI included in the $97 plan?+
The $97 Starter plan lists Voice AI as a core feature, but the pricing page marks it with an asterisk: "usage based charges apply." Without an AI Employee plan, Voice AI bills at pay-per-use voice and token cost. The AI Employee Growth or Unlimited plan is a separate $50 or $97 a month per sub-account on top of the subscription.
Why is my Voice AI agent not answering calls?+
HighLevel's own troubleshooting answer: make sure the number is assigned to the agent in the agent's Deploy tab, then confirm the number's Call Forwarding settings show Voice AI as the routing option. Also lower the call-forwarding timeout to a few seconds, because a call that reaches local voicemail is marked completed and the agent will not pick up. Check Working Hours too if the agent is on a custom schedule.
Can Voice AI book appointments?+
Yes, on a HighLevel calendar. HighLevel's overview says Voice AI "can connect with calendars and schedule appointments directly during conversations," for consultations, service appointments, discovery calls and follow-ups. The calendar, slot lengths and availability must be built first, and confirmation and reminder texts need an approved A2P registration.
Can Voice AI make outbound calls?+
The feature exists for lead follow-up, appointment reminders, reactivation and confirmations, but HighLevel states that "Outbound Voice AI requires the applicable approval and compliance setup" and that outbound testing may stay unavailable until those are complete. We build reminders and confirmations; we do not build outbound cold calling.
Is GoHighLevel Voice AI HIPAA compliant?+
Not by default. HighLevel's pricing guide says "HighLevel accounts are not HIPAA compliant by default" and sells HIPAA compliance as a $297 a month account-wide add-on that "cannot be deactivated" once enabled. A practice also needs a business associate agreement in place before patient calls go through any vendor. Ask us about both on the call.
