The Insurance Agency Speed-to-Lead Report

We reviewed the quote funnels of 75 independent insurance agencies across 30+ states. The leads they pay for are racing a clock almost nobody has set up to beat.

What we found

01

93% of agencies show nothing set up to answer after the office closes.

Quote forms, contact forms and phone lines collect requests around the clock, but at 70 of the 75 agencies we reviewed, nothing on the site indicates a request would be answered outside office hours: no live chat, no instant reply, no stated after-hours line. Unless someone checks email over the weekend, the Friday 6 pm quote request waits until Monday.

02

Only 8% promise any response time.

Six agencies of 75 make a speed commitment anywhere on their site. The promises we found ranged from "5 to 10 minutes during business hours" to "within 24 hours on business days." The rest say "we'll get back to you as soon as possible", which tells a comparison shopper nothing.

03

Half run quote-form capture with no instant response behind it.

53% use online quote forms as their primary intake, some with a dozen product-specific forms. Almost none showed any mechanism that answers the form the minute it's submitted. The form works all night; the follow-up doesn't.

04

Live chat is almost nonexistent.

Just 2 of 75 agencies had any kind of chat or instant-answer channel. In an industry where the product is being there when something goes wrong, the buying experience starts with silence.

05

The shared-lead math makes this brutal.

Purchased internet leads are often shared: EverQuote says a shared lead goes to at most three agencies, 1.9 on average. The Lead Response Management study found the odds of qualifying a lead are 21 times higher when you reply within 5 minutes rather than 30. On a shared lead, the agency that replies first gets the first real conversation.

Reply in 5 minutes instead of 30 and the odds of qualifying the lead are 21x higher.

That is the finding of the Lead Response Management study. Your shopper filled out three agencies' quote forms tonight, and at 93% of the agencies we reviewed, nothing is set up to reply before morning.

How we did this

In August 2026 we reviewed the public quote funnels of 75 independent US insurance agencies across more than 30 states: how each captures a quote request (quote form, contact form, booking, phone), whether anything on the site is set up to respond outside office hours (live chat, an instant reply, a stated after-hours line), and whether a response time is promised anywhere on the site. This is a review of what a shopper sees, not a mystery shop: we did not submit test quote requests or time replies. Where we say an agency shows no after-hours coverage, we mean nothing on its site indicates a request would be answered before the next business day. Categories overlap, so percentages do not sum to 100.

Want to know where your agency's funnel ranks against these 75?

The agencies winning in 2026 answer every quote request, form, call, or text, in under 60 seconds, around the clock, and put a qualified prospect on a producer's calendar. We build and run that for you, live in 14 days.

How we build that for insurance agencies is on its own page. The research behind the 60-second target, with every source, is in the speed to lead guide.
